About the position

The Chemical Engineer I position is an entry-level role focused on performing routine engineering functions on assigned projects or sub-projects. The role requires applying standard mathematical, physical science, and engineering technologies to complete assignments under detailed instructions. The engineer will assist in the design and project management of new and current projects, products, programs, components, tools, and acceptance equipment, all under the technical guidance of higher-level chemical engineers or departmental management. In this role, the engineer will participate in establishing operating procedures for new products and components, assist in developing test procedures, and conduct routine to moderately complex engineering evaluation tests. This includes performing product and process capability studies, quality audits, and product or project data reviews. The engineer will evaluate opportunities for defect prevention based on standard or accepted solutions and prepare evaluation reports that analyze discrepancies, making recommendations for improvements in productivity and quality. The position also involves defining and acquiring tooling, gauging, and other equipment necessary for manufacturing and inspecting parts to ensure product quality. The engineer will interact with design agencies, suppliers, and internal organizations to resolve design, development, production, and acceptance issues. Safety is a priority, and the engineer is expected to conduct activities in a safe manner, adhering to established health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) requirements. The role may require the engineer to stop work if unsafe conditions are identified, emphasizing the importance of safety in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design and/or project/process management of new and current projects, products, programs, components, tools and acceptance equipment under technical guidance.
  • Participates in establishing operating procedures on new products and components.
  • Assists in the development of test procedures and performance of routine to moderately complex engineering evaluation tests.
  • Evaluates opportunities for defect prevention based on standard or accepted solutions.
  • Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, and makes recommendations for product, test equipment, procedures and manufacturing or operating processes.
  • Assists in the preparation of product or project definitions, manufacturing drawings and specifications, and test equipment designs.
  • Defines and acquires tooling, gauging and other equipment necessary to manufacture/inspect parts to assure product quality.
  • Interacts with design agencies, suppliers and/or internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, productions and acceptance issues.
  • Provides technical assistance in appropriate assigned field.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding technological advances that improve productivity and quality, reduce flowtime, and enhance operational surety.
  • Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HS&E requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program or a bachelor's of science degree in Physics from an accredited program.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, mathematical computations, computer software applications, and written documentation.
  • Demonstrated established technical methodologies to routine engineering projects.
  • Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business.
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • United States Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
