About the position

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Chemical Engineer Intern to join our team in Mitchell, IN. As a Chemical Engineer Intern, you will immerse yourself in plant processes, gaining hands-on experience in the cement industry. This internship offers the opportunity to tackle new challenges and projects, providing you with real-world working experience that will be invaluable when you return to school in the fall. You will be involved in various aspects of plant operations, working closely with experienced engineers, managers, and production employees across different departments. This role is designed to help you understand the operations of a cement plant and the cement industry while applying your academic knowledge in a practical setting. In this position, you will be expected to follow all plant safety policies and procedures, including wearing the required personal protective equipment. You will support the plant operations in achieving production goals and participate in assigned project work. Completing technical projects will be a key part of your role, allowing you to gain insights into the production, maintenance, and quality departments, as well as the various jobs and functions within the plant. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company policies and procedures, contributing to a safe and efficient working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all plant safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Put your education into action in the field to support and participate in assigned project work.
  • Support the plant operations in achieving production goals while partnering with experienced engineers, managers, and production employees in different departments.
  • Complete technical projects to gain an understanding of the operations of a cement plant and the cement industry, as well as obtain the practical application of mining and quarry skills.
  • Learn the mission of the production, maintenance, and quality departments and different job and functions.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • A college student studying Chemical Engineering working to earn a bachelor's degree with the desire to learn the ins and outs of the cement industry.
  • A highly organized, efficient, and process improvement mindset and skillset.
  • Someone able and willing to dive in and help solve problems in the field.
  • Someone with a strong desire to work in a heavy industrial environment.
  • An engineer student whose desired career path is to be promoted into different roles within the organization.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
