About the position

As the Chemical Engineer Lead at PPG, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the tracking, usage, and reduction of Trichloroethylene (TCE) within our operations. Your expertise will be crucial in operating and optimizing various systems including the extractor, dryer, oven, decanting, distillation, and solvent recovery systems. You will lead the TCE continuous improvement team, focusing on minimizing emissions and enhancing efficiency across all processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Your responsibilities will also include conducting thorough cause analyses, facilitating corrective actions, and employing statistical analysis to refine solvent recovery processes. In this role, you will be responsible for leading regular meetings with the plant team to discuss strategies for improving TCE emissions. You will track assignments and ensure their completion while collaborating closely with the Operations and Maintenance teams to implement necessary upgrades to instrumentation and process equipment. It will be essential to keep all related processes current and to provide training for supervisors and operators to maintain high standards of operation. As the leader of the TCE continuous improvement team, you will identify opportunities to enhance solvent recovery processes and work alongside the operations team to implement your recommendations. You will also coordinate with the Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure that equipment is properly maintained, particularly during plant-wide outages. In partnership with the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team, you will monitor compliance with Barberton's Title V air permit, promptly notifying leadership of any deviations and ensuring that corrective actions are taken. Additionally, you will oversee the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Program to ensure compliance with inspections and record-keeping for leak repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Expert in operating and optimizing extractor, dryer, oven, decanting, distillation, and solvent recovery systems.
  • Lead regular meetings with the plant team to improve TCE emissions.
  • Track assignments and ensure completion.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams to implement instrumentation and process equipment upgrades.
  • Ensure all related processes are up to date and train supervisors and operators accordingly.
  • Lead the TCE continuous improvement team.
  • Identify ways to improve solvent recovery processes and work with the operations team to implement recommendations.
  • Work with the Maintenance and Operations team to ensure equipment maintenance, especially during plant-wide outages.
  • Monitor compliance with Barberton's Title V air permit and notify leadership of any deviations.
  • Oversee the LDAR Program for compliance with inspections and leak repairs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in chemical engineering or process control engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field with a background in chemistry/science.
