About the position

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Cement Trainee in Mitchell, IN, to participate in a structured training program designed to provide an overview of cement plant operations. This position is an entry-level role aimed at developing future engineers within the company. As a Cement Trainee, you will support the operations in achieving production goals by partnering with experienced engineers and managers across various departments, including safety, environmental, operations, maintenance, and quality control. The role involves working at different locations, providing a comprehensive understanding of the cement production process and operational standards. In this position, you will engage in production and maintenance meetings, learn basic supervisory skills by working closely with supervisors, and complete assigned project work and performance studies. You will also participate in various training programs and conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve operational issues. The Cement Trainee will support the operations in improving plant performance by suggesting changes in routines, personnel, equipment, and processes as part of the Continuous Improvement Program. Adherence to plant and WorkSafeBC Safety Policies is crucial, including the proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and maintaining awareness of environmental standards. You will be expected to take corrective action to address minor problems or report compliance issues to the appropriate department for resolution.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering preferred; mechanical or electrical engineering considered with solid academic achievements.
  • Prior manufacturing exposure or experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to other locations during the training program.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment with 24/7 operations.
