As a Chemical / Mechanical Engineer at Framatome, you will play a crucial role in delivering clean, safe energy and advancing nuclear technology. This full-time position is based in Lynchburg, VA, and is part of the Installed Base Business Unit, which is responsible for various services and maintenance activities for commercial nuclear operating plants. Your work will involve supporting system component design and qualification, process systems maintenance, and system component fabrication. You will apply Framatome's patented sludge chemical cleaning or radioactive system decontamination applications, which include components such as heat transfer, ion exchange, pumping, ventilation, chemical handling, corrosion monitoring, reverse osmosis, and waste treatment. The systems you will work on include steam generators, heat exchangers, and reactor coolant systems. In this role, you will collaborate closely with process chemists and control engineers to ensure that the application process is set up to perform as designed, achieving maximum results and efficiency. Your daily activities will vary based on project assignments and your designated role, requiring you to scale up or down processes and make appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration. You will also be responsible for writing procurement authorizations and following procedures to operate components and systems. Additionally, you will be involved in applying new technologies and researching new products from trial through to commercialization, continuously improving products and services. The working hours for this position are typically from 8 AM to 5 PM, with the potential for overtime to meet project deadlines. Contracted project execution may involve shift work, including day and night shifts, as well as weekends. You will work in various environments, including offices, laboratories, and nuclear power plants, and travel may be required at certain stages of a project. In some environments, you may need to wear protective clothing and use safety equipment such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, ear protectors, gloves, and hard hats. This position requires up to 50% travel, allowing you to contribute to the global ambition for a better tomorrow by enabling clean, safe, and economical low-carbon energy.
