The Chemical Plant Controls Engineer position is a critical role within an expanding chemical manufacturing client, focusing on the development, implementation, and maintenance of automation and control systems at the plant site. This includes working with various components such as electrical systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), DCS (Distributed Control Systems), pneumatic circuits, and networking, all of which are essential for the efficient operation of automated chemical processes. The engineer will ensure that all control systems comply with regulatory requirements, including SIL (Safety Integrity Level) and LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) assessments, which are vital for maintaining safety and operational standards in the chemical industry. In addition to system development, the role involves maintaining and creating instrument and electrical drawings for control systems, which include motor elementaries and instrument loop sheets. The engineer will also assist the maintenance team with assigned work, breakdowns, and emergency work orders, ensuring that the plant operates smoothly and efficiently. Another key responsibility is to maintain PLC documentation received from equipment suppliers and to archive PLC programs and machine control drawings, which are crucial for future reference and troubleshooting. Training and mentoring technicians and technical staff on control system strategies and installations is also a significant part of this role, fostering a knowledgeable workforce capable of handling complex control systems. Furthermore, the engineer will participate in the development and maintenance of IT systems and infrastructure, collaborating with both internal teams and external vendors to ensure robust and secure operations.
