About the position

The Chemical Process Engineer position at Artazn LLC in Greeneville, TN, is a critical role within the Coinage Department, focusing on the engineering and technical support of manufacturing operations, particularly in Electroplating and Metal Finishing processes. The engineer will be responsible for tracking key input and output metrics, developing action plans to meet or exceed departmental objectives, and determining run rates and line layouts for future plating jobs. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure the proper operation of plating lines, including writing crane programs and reviewing real-time and scrap reports to maintain operational efficiency. In this role, the engineer will oversee operations, troubleshoot process problems, and schedule line maintenance while providing technical support for all processes within the Coinage Department, which includes electroplating, annealing, and burnishing. The engineer will lead cost improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Collaboration with various departments is essential, as the engineer will work with groups to assess existing process capabilities, identify areas for improvement, and evaluate new processes or equipment to meet market demands. Documentation is a key aspect of this role, as the engineer will develop and maintain control plans, work instructions, and inspection forms, while also assisting in training operators. The engineer will coordinate with the EH&S Department to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations and will work closely with the Maintenance and Quality Departments to troubleshoot operational issues and ensure product specifications are met. The use of analytical tools such as 8D, 5 Why, FEMA, and Design of Experiments will be integral to improving operations and training Process Technicians. The engineer will also engage with customers and vendors to resolve any issues related to goods and services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operation, troubleshoot process problems, schedule line maintenance, and provide technical support for all processes in the Coinage Department including electroplating, annealing, and burnishing processes.
  • Lead and direct cost improvement initiatives to meet departmental objectives, focusing on safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.
  • Determine run rates and line layouts for future plating jobs.
  • Write crane programs to control plating lines for proper operation.
  • Review real-time and scrap reports to ensure proper plating operation.
  • Evaluate existing process capabilities and identify areas for improvement to enhance market positioning and margins.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for processes including control plans, work instructions, and inspection forms.
  • Train operators and involve them in cross-functional teams as necessary.
  • Work with the EH&S Department to ensure safe and environmentally compliant operations.
  • Coordinate Maintenance Department work in assigned areas.
  • Collaborate with key leaders to determine root causes and corrective measures as assigned.
  • Work with the Quality Department to ensure products meet specifications and address customer quality complaints.
  • Collaborate with the Development Department to roll out and scale up new processes.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues with Supervisors.
  • Utilize 8D, 5 Why, FEMA, and Design of Experiments methodologies to improve operations.
  • Train and direct Process Technicians.
  • Perform cross-section analysis and use various physical measurement methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in electroplating and metal finishing processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in writing technical documentation and training materials.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
