About the position

As a Chemical Process Engineer II at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in innovating high-purity, high-performance chemicals and materials. You will be part of UOP, a Honeywell company, which is a leading international licensor of processing technology and supplier of engineering services, catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, specialty materials, and digital solutions for the global refining, gas processing, and petrochemical industries. Your work will contribute to the ongoing legacy of UOP, which has led six revolutions in hydrocarbon processing technologies over the past century. In this position, you will participate in site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and Process Safety Management (PSM) programs. This includes managing changes, conducting process hazard analyses, performing root cause analyses and incident investigations, and developing standard operating procedures. You will also be responsible for identifying and monitoring key process indicators to ensure optimal plant operations, meeting production, yield, and cost targets. Your role will involve developing and executing productivity projects aimed at improving baseline safety, quality, production, and cost performance. You will create capital project scopes of work and associated process packages to enhance or maintain unit operations. Additionally, you will act as a bridge between management and front-line workers to achieve plant safety and production objectives. Mentoring and training operations staff on unit design and optimal operation will also be part of your responsibilities, along with assisting the operations department in troubleshooting plant operational issues. You will provide accurate and timely forecasts to Plant Finance to help meet financial commitments and interpret the health of the production system using PI and other data collection processes.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in site HSE and Process Safety Management programs, including Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, Root Cause Analysis/Incident Investigations, and development of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Identify and monitor Key Process Indicators to sustain optimal plant operations and deliver on production, yield, and cost targets.
  • Develop and execute productivity projects to improve baseline safety, quality, production, and cost performance.
  • Develop capital project scopes of work and associated process packages to improve or maintain unit operations.
  • Bridge multiple layers of organization between management and front-line workers to deliver plant safety and production objectives.
  • Mentor and train operations staff on unit design and intended/optimal operation. Assist Operations department in troubleshooting plant operational issues.
  • Provide accurate, timely forecasts to Plant Finance to help meet financial commitments.
  • Interpret the health of the production system using PI and other data collection processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years PSM experience
  • 5+ years' experience in chemical industry manufacturing, operations, or engineering roles

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in chemical engineering, or related prior experience in a production or process engineering role preferred
  • Familiarity in various types of unit operations including reactions, binary distillation, absorption, and handling of highly hazardous materials.
  • Certification in Six Sigma or Lean Methodologies
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills with typical chemical process equipment (Pumps, kilns, dryers, instrumentation, utilities, etc.)
  • Familiarity with HS&E regulations and life critical safety tools such as Lock-out/Tag-out, Line Break, and Hot Work permits and procedures
  • Able to work safely among highly hazardous materials and wear all required PPE including chemical resistant clothing and respiratory protection, as required
  • Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
