About the position

The Chemical Process Engineer III position at Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) involves supporting the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex and the Pantex Plant. The role focuses on developing high-quality design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support, and troubleshooting plant systems. The engineer will work closely with an integrated project team and contribute to various design engineering tasks, ensuring the safety and reliability of U.S. nuclear deterrent systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality detailed design packages.
• Provide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement designs.
• Prepare conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and statements of work.
• Create design criteria and title II engineering deliverables including calculations, construction specifications, and equipment specifications.
• Work effectively as a team member or technical lead for multi-discipline tasks.
• Perform walk-downs in existing plant facilities to generate design documents and provide field support.
• Participate in chemical design engineering support including scope definition, feasibility studies, and detailed designs.
• Conduct flowsheet development, analyses, calculations, and prepare reports/studies.
• Support safety basis documentation and equipment sizing and arrangements.
• Prepare procurement documents and provide testing support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10-14 years of relevant experience, or MS with 10-13 years of experience.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
