About the position

The Chemical Process Engineer position at Tesla, Inc. involves conducting material testing and failure analysis to ensure the quality of vehicle components. The role focuses on developing analytical procedures, supporting quality standards, and facilitating material and process improvements. Engineers will work closely with scientists and cross-functional teams to interpret and communicate testing results, while also maintaining laboratory practices and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct material testing through routine testing and failure analysis.
  • Develop analytical procedures and support the establishment of achievable quality standards.
  • Facilitate and promote material and process improvements.
  • Work with scientists and engineers to perform failure analysis and establish testing protocols.
  • Ensure testing is performed using laboratory practices through training and method controls.
  • Perform chemical testing of raw materials for battery cell manufacture.
  • Maintain all chemical analytical equipment, including daily preventative maintenance and calibration.
  • Author standard operating procedures and training for laboratory users.
  • Interpret and communicate results of non-routine and failure analysis testing to cross-functional factory teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field (foreign degree equivalent accepted) and 5 years of experience in a laboratory or quality operations setting.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field (foreign degree equivalent accepted) and 3 years of experience in a laboratory or quality operations setting.
  • Experience in chemical testing of raw materials for manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in elemental analysis by ICP-OES, anions/cations by IC, volatile organic compounds by GC/MS, specific gravity, pH, and titrations.
  • Experience with chemical analytical equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 and ISO17025 regulations.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting subject to OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Experience in Environmental Health & Safety, Design Engineering, and/or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Full-time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
  • Competitive salary of $144,248 per year.
