About the position

As a Chemical Process Engineer at MSA Safety, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of chemical processes within our operations. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the field of chemical engineering and are committed to maintaining high Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards. You will be responsible for providing expertise and recommendations on chemical-related issues, including waste profiling, and will support the facility in processing various types of sensors, including electrochemical and infrared gas detecting sensors. Your role will involve solving technical processing issues through thorough investigation, planning, and conducting experiments. You will be expected to analyze and validate improvements, document new process standards, and maintain a working knowledge of hazardous chemicals. Additionally, you will develop processes and assembly methods that meet or exceed product cost and design targets while improving quality. You will also support Beta build planning and execution, ensuring that data analysis and delivery to engineering are conducted effectively. In this position, you will design and optimize chemical processes for ultra-high purity gas chemical manufacturing systems and develop essential engineering documents such as Process Flow and Instrumentation specifications. As the technical expert, you will lead process improvements and failure investigations, collect and assess research and process data, and provide process expertise for proposed design changes. Your ability to analyze data from both internal and external customer-related issues will be vital in providing technical support and conducting failure investigations. You will also be responsible for giving technical presentations to staff and customers as required, showcasing your expertise in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards when managing and working with chemicals and chemical processes.
  • Provide expertise and recommendations for chemical related issues including waste profiling.
  • Support the facility with processing electrochemical, catalytic bead combustible and infrared gas detecting sensors.
  • Solve technical processing issues through investigating, planning, and conducting experiments, DOEs, analyzing, validating improvements, and documenting new process standards.
  • Maintain a working knowledge/experience of hazardous chemicals.
  • Develop processes and assembly methods to meet or exceed product cost and design targets and improve quality.
  • Support Beta build planning, coordination, execution through manufacturing, initial test, data analysis and delivery to engineering.
  • Design and optimize chemical processes for ultra-high purity gas chemical manufacturing systems.
  • Develop engineering documents (Process Flow/Instrumentation/Specs/etc.).
  • Lead as the technical expert to process improvements and failure investigations.
  • Collect and assess research and process data to document and statistical control of production operations and process development.
  • Provide process expertise for proposed design changes, improvements.
  • Support system and process parameter setup, verification, and release to production.
  • Analyze data from internal and external customer related issues providing technical support and failure investigation.
  • Analyze customer's specifications and requirements for implementation into manufacturing processes.
  • Give technical presentations to staff and customers as required.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, Chemistry, or related discipline, from an ABET accredited program.
  • Process knowledge of chemicals and chemical processing.
  • Electrochemical processing knowledge and experience.
  • Catalytic combustible bead processing knowledge and experience.
  • Infrared gas detecting sensors processing knowledge and experience.
  • Leadership skills to coach, mentor and provide technical guidance to various engineering disciplines and technicians.
