About the position

Ammobia is seeking a highly experienced Chemical Process Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of innovative ammonia synthesis processes, specifically the 'Haber Bosch 2.0' plants. This role involves starting with a clean sheet design and overseeing the entire process from plant startup to operation, integrating materials and process learnings along the way. The engineer will collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team to define and model pilot and commercial-scale processes, ensuring the successful execution of designs through to operation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process design, development, and optimization for Haber Bosch 2.0 ammonia plants.
  • Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary engineering team to define and model pilot and commercial-scale processes.
  • Generate detailed mass and energy balances, equipment specifications, and evaluate outsourcing options.
  • Execute designs through to operation, integrating materials and process learnings.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, heat and mass balances, P&IDs, controls strategies, and process simulation models using industry-standard software tools.
  • Build an engineering team to support pilot plant detailed design through to deployment.
  • Specify and source chemical plant components with commercial availability in mind.
  • Build high fidelity technoeconomic models and develop project cost estimates.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in chemical process design and optimization, preferably in ammonia, specialty chemicals, or petrochemicals.
  • Deep knowledge of process simulation tools (such as Aspen, gPROMS) and programming languages (such as Python or MATLAB).
  • Demonstrated experience developing Basic Engineering Packages (BEPs) and/or FEED packages for chemical projects.
  • Experience in all stages of chemical process design, from concept to commissioning to operation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of process safety and ability to conduct hazard analyses.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in developing pilot or first-of-a-kind chemical plants for novel technologies.
  • Expertise in dynamic modeling of chemical processes.
  • Subject matter expertise in thermochemical reactors, heat exchangers, compressors, or gas-gas separations.

Benefits
