About the position

As a Chemical Process Engineer at Packaging Corporation of America (PCA), you will play a crucial role in optimizing and engineering processes within our Valdosta, GA Paper Mill. This position is integral to ensuring that our operations not only meet but exceed industry standards for efficiency and environmental responsibility. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include compliance process coordination, leading lean projects, ensuring product safety, and providing analytical and systems support. Your work will directly impact our mission to deliver exceptional service and operational excellence to our customers. In this role, you will develop and maintain methods for tracking and reducing operational costs, which is essential for the financial health of the mill. You will coordinate with outside resources to enhance our operations by effectively filtering and utilizing relevant information. Data analysis will be a significant part of your responsibilities, as you will conduct projects that leverage data to inform business decisions. This may involve working at higher levels for training and development purposes, providing you with opportunities for professional growth. You will ensure compliance with all applicable environmental state and federal permits and laws, particularly in relation to pulp, power, paper, and all support operations. Collaborating with engineering teams, you will consult on capital planning and project implementation for process modifications or upgrades. Your support will be vital in achieving the mill's goals for safety and environmental stewardship, as well as other operational needs. You will be expected to manage jobs effectively to achieve the best results at the lowest cost, identify opportunities for cost reduction, and improve planning performance. Additionally, you will oversee contractors performing jobs to ensure quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain methods for tracking and reducing operational costs.
  • Coordinate efforts with outside resources to improve operations by utilizing appropriate information.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental state and federal permits and laws for pulp, power, paper, and support operations.
  • Consult with engineering on capital planning and project implementation for process modifications or upgrades.
  • Support the mill's goals for safety, environmental, and other operational needs.
  • Manage jobs effectively for optimal results at the lowest cost.
  • Identify opportunities to solve issues, reduce costs, and improve planning performance.
  • Effectively manage contractors performing jobs.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, or equivalent education and experience required.
  • A minimum of 1-4 years' experience in process engineering or production in the Pulp & Paper industry.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Successful completion of drug screen required and authorization to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Pulp & Paper Manufacturing Industry preferred.
