About the position

The Chemical and Polymer Process Engineer at Humanetics Safety is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing processes for the custom mixing and blending of chemicals to produce manufactured goods. This role applies principles of chemistry, physics, and engineering to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production, contributing to the company's mission of protecting humans in various sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Design chemical processes to produce polyurethane, vinyl, and rubber products.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments.
  • Lead projects to trial new and existing materials, documenting findings and making recommendations based on experimental data.
  • Analyze and optimize existing processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Troubleshoot issues in production and implement solutions.
  • Develop Design of Experiments to improve first pass yield.
  • Monitor and analyze process performance data.
  • Ensure all processes comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety procedures and protocols.
  • Conduct safety audits and participate in incident investigations.
  • Lead and manage projects from concept through to completion.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, chemists, and production staff.
  • Prepare project reports, documentation, and presentations.
  • Provide technical support to production teams.
  • Train staff on new processes and safety procedures.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in chemical engineering.
  • Support supplier development and 3rd party material testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in the chemical industry.
  • Proven track record of process design, development, and optimization.
  • Strong understanding of polymer chemistry and the properties of various plastics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Lean experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with process simulation software.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
