About the position

The Chemical Process Engineer will support the operation of the Beaumont facility with a strong emphasis on safety and environmental compliance, world-class product quality, and continuous process improvement. This position may be located within the operating units, including Utilities, or in the production support groups such as Technical, Engineering, Maintenance, or Environmental. In any of these locations, the Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to the day-to-day operation of the plant as well as implementing projects aimed at enhancing safety, environmental performance, product quality, and productivity. In this role, the engineer will interface with hourly and salary staff at all levels and various departments within the plant and the Chemical Division. A key responsibility will be ensuring safety compliance within the operating units of the plant. This includes exhibiting safe behaviors, promoting behavioral safety systems among associates, and ensuring compliance with Process Safety Management by updating operating procedures, assisting in training unit operators, and leading the Management of Change process. The engineer will also implement safety and ergonomic improvement projects. Environmental compliance is another critical aspect of this position. The engineer will monitor and track plant emissions to ensure permit compliance and ensure that new installations meet environmental requirements through the Management of Change process. Additionally, the engineer will investigate processes and procedures that can reduce the environmental footprint of the plant and implement necessary changes. Quality monitoring and tracking will also be part of the responsibilities, where the engineer will respond to quality upsets and work to provide corrective actions as needed. Assisting quality assurance in addressing customer complaints to provide timely resolutions will be essential. The engineer will also focus on productivity and continuous improvement by monitoring and tracking plant efficiencies in raw material and energy usage. Utilizing continuous improvement techniques, such as Six Sigma DMAIC, the engineer will identify opportunities and implement process and procedure changes to enhance plant efficiency. Furthermore, the engineer will provide technical support to the operating units, gain expertise in solution polymerization, distillation, and utilities generation processes, and monitor raw material usage and inventories to ensure a consistent supply to meet production needs. The role will also involve interfacing between R&D and the plant during the development of new products or processes to ensure successful scale-up from pilot scale to full production.
