The Chemical Process Engineer at Markem-Imaje plays a crucial role in developing access routes to target products for industrialization. This involves utilizing synthesis schemes developed in research or modifying them as necessary. The engineer will optimize each stage of the process, ensuring that it meets precise quality criteria while maintaining industrial feasibility. This includes considerations for ease of access, reproducibility, hygiene, safety, cost of raw materials, yield control, and compliance with environmental regulations. The role requires a strong scientific background, akin to that of a research engineer, but with a focus on the development and implementation of stabilized processes that meet key performance indicators (KPIs) such as product cost, quality, and efficiency. In this position, the engineer will establish process flow diagrams (IFD/PFD), conduct material and heat balances, and define the nature of materials to be used. They will identify key equipment such as reactors and heat exchangers, and define the necessary instrumentation. The engineer must demonstrate creativity and rigor, working collaboratively with both research and production teams. They will conduct the industrialization process, which includes defining, building, starting, and operating the industrial tool. This involves dialoguing with researchers to establish the bases of industrialization, selecting reaction conditions, and determining whether a piloting phase is necessary before moving to implementation engineering. The engineer will also contribute to cost price calculations for manufactured products, which are essential for determining project profitability. They will identify and collaborate with external vendors to apply existing and developing concepts to Markem-Imaje products. Additionally, the engineer will manage the rollout of new processes from CAPEX approval to production handover, ensuring safety when working with potentially dangerous materials and adhering to established company rules and regulations. Continuous education through courses, lectures, and seminars is also encouraged to maintain and enhance professional knowledge.
