About the position

The Senior Process Engineer will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of process design packages for capital projects. This position requires a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles and the ability to apply them in a practical setting. The engineer will be responsible for executing Process Hazard Analyses, ensuring that all safety and technical standards are met during project execution. The role also involves providing technical support to customers and plant operations, leveraging chemical and process expertise to enhance operational efficiency and product quality. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Senior Process Engineer will mentor new process engineers, fostering their growth and development within the organization. This includes conducting training sessions on new projects and facilitating process improvement initiatives. The engineer will also be involved in technical documentation activities, ensuring that all processes are well-documented and compliant with industry standards. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, including conducting root cause analyses and developing solutions to process-related challenges. The engineer will monitor and report on lake levels and compositions, interact with the Minerals Technology Group, and assist in the development of short and long-term technical plans for plant areas. The Senior Process Engineer will lead process engineering teams, collaborating with technology groups and plant process engineers to drive successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Train/teach operations about new projects
  • Conduct safety hazards reviews
  • Conduct bench and plant testing (materials, additives, process modifications, etc.)
  • Teach technical and process related classes
  • Perform technical and economic evaluations of alternative processes, additives, etc.
  • Identify and develop process control mechanisms
  • Develop solutions to process problems
  • Assist plant areas in development of short and long term technical plans
  • Lead process engineering teams consisting of technology group and plant process engineers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or related field from an accredited 4 year college or university. Chemical Engineering Preferred
  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant process engineering experience
  • Experience providing technical support for chemical manufacturing plants on capital and expense projects including design, scope, process change, mitigation actions, etc.
  • Demonstrated success with process optimization and improvement
  • Capability to help mentor, grow, and develop engineers
  • Lean/Six Sigma Capabilities (Black Belt) preferred
