About the position

The Chemical Process Engineer is a pivotal role within the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, recognized as the technical leader for chemical manufacturing processes. This position is primarily focused on the enhancement of existing chemical processes to improve overall customer satisfaction through increased manufacturing efficiencies. The Chemical Process Engineer serves as the main point of contact for all matters related to chemical manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and continuous improvement activities. In this role, the engineer will identify and implement improvements to existing chemical processes utilizing continuous improvement tools. A critical aspect of the position involves ensuring that all processes comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) regulations, particularly concerning process and cleaning validation. The engineer will also be responsible for completing exception investigations and implementing effective corrective and preventative actions to mitigate the risk of recurrence. Additionally, maintaining all process flow diagrams and material balances for their processes is essential. Collaboration with plant safety and environmental teams is necessary to uphold process-specific safety and environmental information. The engineer will also work closely with plant logistics and planning to simulate scheduling capabilities for complex operating scenarios. As a subject matter expert, the Chemical Process Engineer will support customer or regulatory agency audits for assigned processes and perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement improvements to existing chemical processes using continuous improvement tools.
  • Ensure compliance with all cGMP regulations regarding process and cleaning validation.
  • Complete exception investigations and implement effective corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain all process flow diagrams and material balances for assigned processes.
  • Collaborate with plant safety to maintain process-specific safety information.
  • Work with plant environmental teams to maintain process-specific environmental information.
  • Simulate scheduling capabilities for complex operating scenarios in collaboration with plant logistics and planning.
  • Support customer or regulatory agency audits as the subject matter expert for assigned processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of directly related experience in chemical processing engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of chemistry, physics, and engineering principles.
  • Experience with a wide variety of unit operations and both batch and continuous processes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, from operations to senior management, in both oral and written formats.
  • Knowledge of cGMP and PSM regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with process safety management (PSM) regulations.
