About the position

The R&D Chemical/Mechanical Engineer will contribute to various energy and sustainability programs, focusing on innovative solutions in areas such as thermochemical biofuel production, chemical monitoring, air purification, sensor development, wastewater recycling, clean biomass combustion, and gas-to-liquids conversion. The role requires hands-on experience in a laboratory setting and involves designing and fabricating custom laboratory apparatus, as well as potential rotations on product development teams for new HVAC/R products.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to energy and sustainability programs involving thermochemical biofuel production and chemical monitoring.
• Design bench-scale and pilot-scale reactor systems, particularly for thermochemical conversion processes.
• Fabricate custom laboratory apparatus using mechanical engineering skills.
• Conduct hands-on laboratory work, including instrumentation and wet-lab experience.
• Utilize chemical characterization techniques such as gas chromatography and spectroscopy.
• Engage in PLC and LabView programming and electronic systems assembly.
• Participate in experimental design and instrumentation tasks.
• Collaborate with product development teams for new chemical-related HVAC/R products.

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or PhD in Chemical Engineering.
• 0 - 5 years of work experience.
• U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR restrictions.
• GPA > 3.3 at all degree levels.
• Experience in a hands-on laboratory environment.
• Mechanical aptitude for fabrication of custom laboratory apparatus.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with PLC and LabView programming.
• Familiarity with electronic systems assembly.
• Knowledge of experimental design and instrumentation.
