About the position

The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Chemist 2 to analyze environmental samples for key analytes with significant environmental implications. The role involves utilizing advanced laboratory equipment and methodologies, adhering to established protocols, and focusing on Gamma Spectrometer Analyses. The Chemist 2 will ensure meticulous documentation and compliance with federal and state regulations regarding radioactive materials.

Responsibilities

  • Examine environmental samples to detect key analytes.
  • Utilize advanced equipment and methodologies for analysis.
  • Adhere to established protocols set by U.S. EPA, NIOSH, and other relevant organizations.
  • Independently assess and interpret data concerning recovery rates, precision, and accuracy.
  • Document findings in comprehensive laboratory notebooks.
  • Log and calculate data values for incoming radioactive standards.
  • Perform calculations and record disposal values for radioactive materials.
  • Organize samples upon receipt for efficient processing and analysis.
  • Prepare essential reagents, standards, spikes, and quality control samples.

Requirements

  • One year as a Chemist 1; or
  • One year of professional chemical analytical experience, and a bachelor's degree with 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry; or
  • A graduate degree in chemistry.
  • Must meet PA residency requirement.

  • Full-time employment with a standard work schedule of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
