About The Position

The Chemist II position at the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) involves serving as the Assistant Quality Assurance Officer (A-QAO) within the Division of Laboratories. Requirements

• Completion of four years of college with at least 32 semester hours in chemistry.
• One year of professional experience in analytical chemistry.
• Experience in participating in internal audits of methods and procedures for environmental samples.
• Experience in reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory methods.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with the USEPA Drinking Water Manual and NELAC standards.
• Experience in performing complex analyses using sophisticated laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control requirements for environmental analytical methods.
• Ability to prepare and present technical scientific reports.
• Completion of the TNI Basic Assessor Training Course.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Assistant Quality Assurance Officer (A-QAO) within the Division of Laboratories.
• Participate in and perform critical Quality Assurance tasks.
• Conduct complex analyses of environmental samples according to State and Federal Programs.
• Maintain the Agency laboratory's national accreditation with NELAP and the US EPA.
• Provide laboratory support functions as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
