About the position
The Chemist position at American Bottoms involves performing laboratory analyses of wastewater samples in compliance with EPA approved methodologies. The role is essential for ensuring the accuracy and precision of analytical results, contributing to the facility's reputation as a leading wastewater treatment provider in the region.
Responsibilities
- Perform analytical testing of wastewater samples from residential and industrial customers.
- Complete and review analytical data sheets.
- Conduct peer reviews of co-workers' data sheets.
- Enter data into appropriate logs.
- Troubleshoot data anomalies.
- Compile and provide complete, accurate, and timely reports of test data and analysis.
- Perform Quality Assurance testing as required for processing and compliance.
- Maintain laboratory chemicals, supplies, and materials needed for projects.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Prioritize and communicate test schedules to supervisors/manager.
- Facilitate sample flow between work areas in the department.
- Communicate issues to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a natural or physical science.
- Proven ability to produce accurate and precise analytical results.
- Experience with wastewater testing methods and/or instrumentation techniques preferred, including pH testing, wet chemical methods, and spectroscopy.
- Experience with USEPA testing methods is desired.
- Intermediate skills with Excel are required.
- Preferred intermediate skills with LIMS-type systems.
- Must meet physical requirements including lifting, walking, standing, and sitting.
