About the position

The medical technologist position at a large 859-bed medical center in the New York City area involves working in the Chemistry Department to perform laboratory tests that assist physicians in diagnosing diseases and determining treatment plans. The role requires expertise in various laboratory specialties and emphasizes the importance of lab safety and quality control.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing in clinical chemistry, hematology, transfusion services, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, serology, and molecular diagnostics.
• Match computer orders with specimen labeling and sort specimens.
• Check labeling, log specimens, and arrange reports for delivery.
• Maintain quality results, verify equipment function, troubleshoot, calibrate equipment, and monitor quality control measures.
• Participate in staff training and educational opportunities.
• Identify and communicate abnormal patient conditions and report mandated information to public health authorities.
• Contribute to a safe and secure environment by following established standards and procedures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality by keeping laboratory information confidential.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in science.
• MLS(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
• New York medical technologist license.
• Three (3) years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Roche instrumentation.
