About the position

The Operator Trainee position at Chevron is a dynamic role where you will work with a team at an assigned processing, treating, and/or stock handling equipment to help refine crude oil into various products such as gasoline or jet fuel. This position is critical in ensuring the efficient operation of the refinery, which processes 369,000 barrels of oil per day, distributing these products across the Gulf Coast. As an Operator Trainee, you will be responsible for monitoring and operating company plants and facilities, including upstream facilities after primary separation and processing, as well as downstream and chemical refineries. You will be expected to monitor process variables, troubleshoot issues, and perform interventions to maintain optimal operating performance. In this role, you will gain knowledge of work procedures and practices while performing routine assignments under general supervision. You will be expected to take ownership of your personal safety and the safety of others, building a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures. This includes spending frequent and extended time outdoors in various climates while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). You will also be responsible for maintaining the unit's maintenance, repairs, housekeeping, and emergency response requirements. The position requires operation of process units utilizing a wide range of control systems and equipment, including refrigeration units, mixers, heat exchangers, pumps, vacuum systems, filters, and both atmospheric and pressurized storage tanks. You will also operate utility systems that include power generation by gas-fired turbines, boilers, air compressors, hot oil units, incinerator furnaces, firewater, and cooling water systems, as well as boiler feedwater treatment and effluent water treatment systems. Additionally, you will be required to complete manual operation tasks, such as connecting and disconnecting cargo hoses and load arms on railcars, tank trucks, ships, and barges, as well as manual transfer of chemicals from bags and drums. Successful candidates are expected to satisfy all the requirements associated with the Refinery's Formal Operator Training Program within three years of their hire date. This role is a safety-sensitive position, and candidates must demonstrate a personal commitment to incident and injury-free operations with a proven record in safety and reliability.
