About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at The Preuss School, UC San Diego, is responsible for overseeing all administrative activities that support the school's mission and instructional goals. This role involves managing financial operations, personnel programs, grant management, and facilities management, while also serving as a liaison between various stakeholders including the San Diego Unified School District and the university. The CAO plays a critical role in financial negotiations and is tasked with ensuring effective systems of coordination and control within the school.

Responsibilities

  • Provide internal and external coordination and management of administrative activities.
  • Oversee financial/budgetary controls and personnel programs.
  • Manage grant and contract activities and facilities management.
  • Lead financial negotiations with the San Diego Unified School District.
  • Advise and support the Principal and liaise with faculty, staff, and community.
  • Oversee hiring, supervising, and training of non-academic staff.
  • Assist in the recruitment of academic staff.

Requirements

  • Expert fiscal/accounting/HR management skills demonstrated through experience and education.
  • Strong writing, research, and comprehension skills to interpret complex data and documents.
  • Broad knowledge of budget, account, and fund management processes.
  • Experience in financial analysis, reporting techniques, and human resources management.
  • Proven ability to collect and analyze data and apply policies to various situations.
  • Senior-level knowledge of finance, accounting practices, and business management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in applying management principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to influence staff at all levels.
  • Ability to manage diverse operations and service functions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skills in organization and customer service to manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of administrative computing and web capabilities.
  • Experience with emergency response systems and health and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with facility operations including maintenance and event arrangements.
