About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC) is responsible for developing and executing the hospital's strategic and operational plans. This role ensures alignment with enterprise objectives while addressing local community needs. The CAO provides strategic leadership and oversight for the hospital, collaborating with senior leaders to deliver exceptional patient-centered care and achieve high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve the highest level of performance in CMMC operating units by establishing and managing strategies for productivity and financial performance.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to integrate and expand services to meet the healthcare needs of the RWJBarnabas Health community.
  • Enhance the quality, access, safety, and efficiency of patient services, focusing on performance excellence and patient satisfaction.
  • Leverage technology and data to measure results and improvements through key performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to align clinical practice and safety with hospital and system goals.
  • Manage revenue cycle processes, ensuring timely reimbursement and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes to achieve financial targets and regulatory compliance.
  • Foster relationships with community partners and physicians, representing the hospital in various organizations.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain employees while enhancing engagement and fostering a collaborative culture.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including accreditation standards and HIPAA guidelines.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of healthcare experience, including five years of executive leadership in a community hospital within a multi-hospital system.
  • Proven track record in hospital and service line operations.
  • Experience in a matrixed organizational structure and managing physician relationships.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial planning processes.

  • Strong business insight and knowledge of healthcare funding and competitive marketplaces.
  • Highly developed communication, influencing, and negotiation skills, particularly with physicians and executives.
  • Experience in leading high-performing teams and mentoring employees.
