About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (IV) is responsible for the comprehensive planning and administration of clinical practice, financial operations, academic and research activities, billing compliance, and facilities management within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This role involves developing business plans, managing financial affairs, overseeing grant administration, and ensuring operational efficiency while collaborating with department leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements annual business plans.
  • Works with the Chair to formulate short and long-term fiscal, fundraising/development, and operational goals.
  • Monitors outcomes and revises plans as necessary.
  • Designs and oversees implementation of new business initiatives.
  • Recommends expansion and development of business opportunities.
  • Directly negotiates terms with involved parties regarding responsibilities, authorities, and finances.
  • Manages the department's financial affairs, including reviewing expenditures and income.
  • Develops annual capital and operating budgets and establishes improved financial systems and records.
  • Prepares cost analyses and makes financial recommendations.
  • Collaborates with Chair and Chiefs to develop uniform standards of operations, staffing, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversees grant administration of funds for existing and new research programs, ensuring appropriate allocation and use of funds.
  • Coordinates capital projects and renovations.
  • Manages all facilities and related issues, including compiling annual space surveys and securing equipment inventory monitoring systems.
  • Develops department-wide administrative standards and procedures consistent with protocols.
  • Represents the department on various internal and external committees as specified by the Chair.
  • Oversees PO billing and collection activities, analyzing and participating in systems planning for centralized billing and collection devices.
  • Assists in faculty recruitment activities and planned expansion of various programs.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Approximately 8 plus years of experience in administration in an Academic Medical Center or Hospital environment.
  • Prior administrative, marketing, and budgeting experience or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong leadership, management, organizational, analytical, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
  • Experience with sophisticated technological systems such as SAP or equivalent.
