About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson, Montana, is a pivotal leadership role designed for a seasoned healthcare professional with extensive experience in critical access hospitals, acute care facilities, or rural healthcare settings. In this role, the CAO will monitor, assess, and enhance operational processes to achieve the medical center's objectives and metrics. They will lead initiatives aimed at improving resource management, quality of care, safety, and overall stakeholder satisfaction. The CAO will also be responsible for the overall operating budget performance, staff productivity, key contracts, and operational accountability for select service lines within the Montana service area. Establishing and maintaining relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including caregivers, core leaders, physicians, and local officials, will be crucial for fostering a strong leadership team and ensuring the success of the medical center. The CAO will contribute to the organization's key outcomes by developing a culture of excellence, building strategic alliances, driving process innovation, and shaping organizational strategy. They will lead the development and implementation of an integrated delivery system within Flathead and Lake Counties, ensuring that the organization meets its long-term vision and goals. The CAO will also be responsible for promoting the organization's mission and values, engaging caregivers and providers, and managing the budget effectively to drive profitable growth. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the medical center, ensuring quality, safety, and engagement of caregivers and providers.
  • Monitor, assess, and enhance operational processes to achieve medical center objectives and metrics.
  • Lead initiatives that improve resource management, quality of care, safety, and overall stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Manage the overall operating budget performance, staff productivity, key contracts, and operational accountability for select service lines.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including caregivers, core leaders, and local officials.
  • Develop an organizational culture that leads to ongoing excellence and effective growth of the business.
  • Build strategic alliances outside the organization to create business opportunities and execute business strategies.
  • Drive the organization to think and act in ways that continuously enhance processes that will sustain and enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an integrated delivery system within Flathead and Lake Counties.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations during regulatory or governing organization site surveys.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in health administration, Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Healthcare, or related field.
  • 5 years of senior leadership position in an acute care hospital or medical center.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible leadership positions in the health care field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive experience leading or working in a critical access hospital or rural healthcare setting.
  • Strong track record of operational success and financial management in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience overseeing a service line would be beneficial.
