About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at UC Davis is responsible for overseeing the administration of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department, the CAO manages financial and research administration units, ensuring compliance with university policies and effective communication within the departments. This role involves significant budget management, strategic planning, and leadership responsibilities, contributing to the overall success of the departments' academic and clinical missions.

Responsibilities

  • Act on behalf of the Chair on all administrative issues, except those related to clinical care.
  • Manage finance and research administration units for both departments, overseeing annual operating budgets and contract revenues.
  • Ensure adherence to UC policies and contracts, supporting equal employment opportunities and diversity.
  • Encourage effective communication and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Lead strategic planning and implementation efforts for departmental goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Extensive experience with financial and budget accountability.
  • Experience in developing business models, strategic planning, and development.
  • Multiple years of management and supervisory experience, preferably with administrative staff.
  • Excellent project management skills, including managing capital projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or related field of study.
  • Medical Center experience preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques.
  • Excellent skills in conflict management and establishing customer service standards.
