About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) serves as the chief operating officer, overseeing all administrative and financial functions. This includes financial management, human resources, research administration, space planning, IT, and day-to-day operations. The CAO collaborates with the CVRI Director and plays a strategic role in maximizing resources and maintaining administrative excellence across the institute.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of administrative and financial functions of the CVRI.
• Manage financial management, human resources, research administration, and IT.
• Provide strategic planning and operational management at all sites.
• Maximize utilization of institute resources and maintain administrative excellence.
• Negotiate and problem-solve with external administrators and faculty for collaborative agreements.
• Manage the Smith Cardiovascular Research Building (SCVRB) and its facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
• 8+ years of progressively responsible academic and financial management experience.
• 7+ years of lead/supervisor/manager experience.
• Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques.
• Excellent skills in conflict management and collaborative work.
• Strong project management skills, including capital project management.
• Advanced knowledge of administrative management theory and practice.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with UC and UCSF system-wide policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of ACGME training programs and associated funding guidelines.
