About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is a senior management role responsible for overseeing the administration of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Department, the CAO manages financial and research administration units, ensuring compliance with U.C. policies and contracts while promoting effective communication and a safe working environment. This position plays a critical role in strategic planning, fiscal affairs, and fundraising, with a significant budgetary responsibility of approximately $30 million in annual operating budgets and additional revenue streams.

Responsibilities

  • Act on behalf of the Chair on all administrative issues, except those related to clinical care.
  • Manage the finance and research administration units for both the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
  • Oversee annual operating budgets totaling $30M and additional contract revenue.
  • Plan and implement departmental strategies and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with U.C. policies and contracts, and support equal employment opportunities and diversity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Extensive experience with financial and budget accountability.
  • Experience in developing business models, strategic planning, and development.
  • Multiple years of management and supervisory experience, preferably with administrative staff.
  • Excellent project management skills, including managing capital projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or related field of study.
  • Medical Center experience preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols, and procedures related to budget and personnel management.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques.
