About the position

The Chief Architect for Software Wellness at MITRE is a technical leadership role focused on advancing software architecture practices to address complex challenges faced by sponsors. This position involves overseeing software architecture activities, fostering innovation, and mentoring new architects while collaborating across diverse technical domains and organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assume the role of the inaugural Chief Architect for Software Wellness, working with leadership to define and grow the role
  • Plan, develop, and oversee a set of strategic outcomes to advance software architecture processes, assessment, and innovation
  • Develop impactful work in software architecture across key sponsors
  • Identify, lead, and nurture business services in response to our sponsors' needs and technical trends
  • Work in partnership with other software architects and organizational leadership to provide mentorship, engagement, shared goals and outcomes
  • Collaborate with other architects throughout MITRE to develop shared approaches and impacts
  • Ensure technical quality of software architectural approaches throughout the organization
  • Act as a key technical resource for our sponsors and programs
  • Collaborate with work leaders to develop strategic approaches and impacts
  • Provide technical domain-specific knowledge, leadership, and influence internally and externally across multiple stakeholders

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
  • Experience managing projects and/or experience as a direct supervisor / group lead
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance
  • Experience developing work programs, shaping work programs, and creating program relationships
  • 10+ years experience in modern software languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, and/or Javascript
  • Experience working with large, complex software systems and key software system processes (technical debt mitigation, agile development, system architecture, legacy modernization, etc)
  • 10+ years experience as a software architect
  • Familiarity with architecture and modeling tools and techniques
  • Demonstrated technical stature in software engineering and/or software architecture topics, including publications, presentations, and/or patents

Nice-to-haves

  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Masters, PhD or other advanced degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field
