About the position

The Chief Architect (CA) serves as the lead technical expert for the Social Security Administration (SSA), providing technical vision and guidance to the Commissioner and Chief Information Officer. This role is pivotal in defining the organization's architecture platform, ensuring alignment with the agency's mission and objectives, and overseeing the design and implementation of technology solutions that are scalable, secure, and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Define the overall architecture strategy and vision for the organization, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
  • Set policy, provide governance and oversight, and offer technical expertise in information system and technology architecture, security, data, and business architecture.
  • Utilize expert-level technical knowledge to develop and maintain an aspirational long-term architectural roadmap for the enterprise.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of technology solutions, guiding the technical team to ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to translate complex business needs into sustainable technology strategies.
  • Design and oversee the development of a business data architecture and mapping methodology for enterprise data.
  • Review and approve major architectural designs to ensure compliance with strategic direction.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Specialized experience at a senior level (GS-15 level or equivalent) in enterprise architecture and governance throughout the systems development lifecycle.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining an enterprise architecture roadmap, including strategy, business, data, applications, infrastructure, and security.
  • Experience facilitating IT alignment through a collaborative and consultative manner.
