About the position

The Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO) at Harvard Divinity School is a strategic leadership role responsible for enhancing the school's visibility and engagement through innovative communication and marketing strategies. Reporting directly to the Dean, the CCMO will lead a team of eight, overseeing internal and external communications, media relations, crisis management, and marketing initiatives to promote the school's mission and academic offerings to diverse audiences globally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communication strategies and advise senior leaders on initiatives to promote the school's mission and academic offerings.
  • Oversee and develop communication strategy and execution, crisis management, media relations, and engagement campaigns.
  • Manage internal communications, publications, and the Harvard Theological Review.
  • Develop and implement internal communications strategies to foster community awareness of school programs and priorities.
  • Execute a comprehensive digital and social media strategy to enhance audience engagement and analytics utilization.
  • Oversee a publications and editorial strategy to ensure quality and consistency in content and design.
  • Provide strategic advice on issues management and crisis communications to senior management and faculty.
  • Manage local, national, and international media relations plans to enhance visibility for faculty and programs.
  • Develop marketing plans to understand trends in graduate religious education and promote the HDS brand.
  • Oversee the Office of Communications, including fiscal management and staff development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Expertise in interdisciplinary marketing and communications in mission-driven organizations.
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible leadership experience.

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Experience in a university/academic environment is helpful but not required.
