About The Position

The Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO) at Columbia Business School (CBS) plays a pivotal role in shaping and amplifying the school's global influence. Reporting to the Dean and working closely with the Chief of Staff, the CCMO is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic communications plan that enhances CBS's reputation, visibility, and brand. This position leads a team of communications professionals and collaborates with various stakeholders to align communication efforts with CBS's strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience in strategic communications, media relations, digital media, and crisis communication.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in team management, with a track record of mentoring and developing talent.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities.
  • Experience in higher education, particularly business schools, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a robust communications strategy that elevates CBS's profile globally.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Dean for Research to drive a thought leadership communications strategy.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within CBS and across Columbia University.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance CBS's brand identity and ensure consistency in messaging.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to promote major CBS events, including speaker series and conferences.
  • Manage media outreach efforts and serve as a primary spokesperson when necessary.
  • Lead initiatives to improve internal communication within CBS.
  • Develop and execute crisis communication strategies for sensitive situations.
  • Draft high-level communications for the Dean, including speeches and statements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of communications professionals.
  • Oversee the department's budget and manage expenses responsibly.
  • Measure communication strategy effectiveness and provide regular updates to leadership.
