About the position

The Chief Compliance & CRA Officer at Thrivent Bank is responsible for leading the Bank's Community Reinvestment Act Program and overseeing broad compliance activities, including Compliance Assurance Testing, BSA/AML, and Responsible Banking/Fair Lending Programs. This role is pivotal in ensuring the effectiveness of the Bank's Compliance Management Systems (CMS) and serves as a trusted advisor to senior management, focusing on compliance risk management and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a risk-based organizational-wide compliance program to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ensures the Bank has an effective Compliance Management System (CMS) and meets compliance risk management obligations.
  • Leads the Responsible Banking/Fair Lending Program and the CRA Program, cultivating community relationships in Utah.
  • Manages the Compliance Assurance Testing team and the BSA/AML team.
  • Oversees the regulatory change management process to ensure timely implementation of legislative and regulatory changes.
  • Coordinates regulatory compliance communications and examinations.
  • Oversees and coordinates Regulatory Compliance Training for employees and the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership on compliance risk management.
  • Administers and improves compliance policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Participates in strategic planning and evaluation of business performance goals.
  • Chairs the Compliance Risk Management Committee.
  • Monitors requirements from banking regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
  • Recruits and develops a high-performing compliance team, promoting a culture of accountability and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or JD preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of regulatory compliance experience in banking or financial services, primarily within an ILC chartered bank.
  • Minimum 7 years of management/supervisory experience; CRA program experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal statutory and regulatory frameworks, including key consumer regulations.
  • Experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance solutions in compliance risk assessments and regulatory change management.
  • At least one of the following certifications: CRCM, CAMS, CIPM, or CIPP.
