About the position

The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) position is a critical role within our client company, an established minority-owned financial services firm with over 15 years of experience in New Jersey. This firm provides a comprehensive suite of institutional brokerage services to a diverse clientele, including corporations, financial institutions, hedge funds, endowments, and public pensions. The CCO will work remotely and is expected to manage compliance functions on a part-time basis, specifically 1/4-time, under a 1099 contract arrangement. The role comes with a generous annual salary and is focused on ensuring that the organization adheres to all regulatory standards and internal policies while remaining informed about regulatory developments and requirements. In this position, the CCO will be responsible for overseeing the compliance program across the organization. This includes managing examinations and communications with regulatory entities, handling regulatory filings, addressing customer complaints, and performing ongoing compliance surveillance functions. The CCO will collaborate closely with internal representatives and the CEO to ensure that all necessary documentation is gathered and verified, maintaining comprehensive records of all filings and communications related to regulatory compliance. The role also involves developing and maintaining a best-in-class compliance program, policies, and practices to ensure the firm operates within the legal framework of the financial services industry. The CCO will spearhead audits and examinations to assess adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies, ensuring that the firm remains compliant in all its operations. This position is vital for maintaining the integrity and reputation of the firm in the financial services sector, particularly in the institutional market.

Responsibilities

  • Build out the current administration of companywide compliance program
  • Prepare, review, and submit regulatory filings in adherence to applicable laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with 7 internal representatives and the CEO to gather and verify necessary documentation
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all filings and communications related to regulatory compliance
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the surveillance system of advisory and broker-dealer activities
  • Develop and maintain best-in-class compliance program, policies, and practices
  • Spearhead audits and examinations to assess and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies

Requirements

  • FINRA Series 7 Required; SIE and Series 24 or 14 can be acquired after hire
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-5+ years in regulatory compliance on the institutional side
  • Experience with Institutional Markets, Trade Equities, Pre-IPO, Securities and Derivatives Regulation, Capital Markets, Compliance and Enforcement, Municipal Bond Origination, Distribution, Sales and Trading
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build good working relationships
  • Experience in creating and implementing compliance policies and procedures
