About the position

The Chief of the Crew and Thermal Systems Division at NASA plays a pivotal role in overseeing the design, development, and testing of critical systems for human spaceflight. This position is responsible for ensuring the division maintains its technical leadership across various programs and stakeholders, contributing to NASA's mission through innovative environmental control and life support systems, thermal control systems, and crew equipment. The role involves strategic planning, collaboration, and fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization in the design, development, and testing of Environmental Control and Life Support Systems, active thermal control systems, and Extravehicular Activity (EVA) systems.
  • Collaborate with programs and stakeholders to ensure outstanding technical leadership across the Center and Agency.
  • Formulate program goals and objectives and develop plans for new projects.
  • Review and direct the technical approach and progress toward hardware and facility development and operational functions.
  • Provide critical support for sustaining Government-furnished equipment and technology for various NASA programs.
  • Manage cost, schedule, planning, and reporting for multiple programs including ISSP, CCP, and Orion.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, and excellence within the organization.
  • Champion the Agency's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA).

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible supervisory/leadership experience, typically obtained over several years in positions at the GS-15 level or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, supervising, and directing innovative scientific and technical programs in a large engineering organization.
  • Experience in spacecraft active thermal control systems, life support systems, space suits, EVA tools, and crew habitability systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in hardware development and certification.
  • Management and operations of associated ground testing facilities.
