About the position

The Chief Data Architect at MetLife will lead the data strategy and architecture efforts, ensuring alignment with business goals and driving innovation through data-driven insights. This role involves collaborating with various teams to design, implement, and maintain robust data architectures that support the organization's growing needs, while also establishing data governance policies and optimizing data systems for performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the organization's business objectives.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of data architectures, including data models, data integration frameworks, and data governance policies.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry trends and technologies, recommending and implementing modern data solutions that enhance efficiency and data quality.
  • Work closely with IT, data science, analytics, and business teams to understand their data needs and provide architectural solutions that support their objectives.
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Monitor and optimize data systems for performance, reliability, and scalability, addressing any issues that arise.
  • Mentor and guide data architects, engineers, and other relevant team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Lead and manage data architecture projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data architecture, data management, or related roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
  • Extensive knowledge of data modeling, database design, data warehousing, ETL processes, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, NoSQL databases).
  • Proficiency with data architecture tools and platforms (e.g., ERwin, Informatica, Talend, Kafka, Spark) and familiarity with cloud data services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset, capable of translating business needs into effective data solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, CDMP) are a plus.
