About the position

The Chief Deputy of Corrections is responsible for directing the operations of the Cuyahoga County Correctional Center under the authority of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff. This role involves analyzing and resolving operational, technical, administrative, and management issues, while ensuring the implementation of effective policies and procedures. The Chief Deputy will oversee the administration and logistics of various services within the correctional facility, manage the budget, and lead strategic planning efforts to enhance regional services in a financially sound manner.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the administration and operational logistics of all services in the Cuyahoga County Correctional Center.
  • Implement program services including crisis intervention, educational and vocational training, and rehabilitative services.
  • Identify and recommend short and long-term strategic plans for the Correctional Center to the Sheriff.
  • Manage the overall budget of the Correctional Center and participate in its development and preparation.
  • Confer with the Sheriff on policies, programs, and procedures for the Correctional Center.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency of operations and employee discipline.
  • Supervise reporting staff, providing mentorship and training.
  • Direct the preparation of administrative studies and reports for various stakeholders.
  • Participate in planning and developing future initiatives for the Cuyahoga County Corrections facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, corrections, social services, or a related field.
  • Seven years of experience in Law Enforcement and/or Corrections.
  • Five years of senior leadership experience managing specialized functions or programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).
  • Completion of a Senior Law Enforcement Training Program.
  • Ten years of experience with two years in Corrections.
