About the position

The Chief Engineer for Android Mobile Applications at Ford Motor Company will lead the development of multiple global mobile applications, focusing on both retail and professional consumers. This role is pivotal in shaping technical strategies for native Android app development and ensuring high-quality feature delivery across various customer brands. As a senior leader within the Connected Vehicle Software organization, the Chief Engineer will mentor software developers and influence industry practices while collaborating with senior leadership to align engineering objectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead technical strategies for native Android mobile app development across multiple global customer brands.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop, align, and execute engineering business objectives.
• Support leaders across vertical delivery teams and horizontal foundational teams to ensure consistent enablement of platform and feature development.
• Lead with customer focus alongside senior partners in the software development triad to deliver high-quality features.
• Partner and consult across multiple domains in the broader software organization, including cloud, verification & validation, and DevOps.
• Consult on strategy and alignment of verification, validation, and DevOps.
• Exemplify high-quality software development, serving as a mentor and guide to software developers.
• Anticipate and evaluate changes in the industry and technology approaches, incorporating them into strategies and plans.
• Advocate for cutting-edge technologies in innovative ways that further the organization and company's objectives.
• Influence industry practices by participating in internal and external events and forums, and writing papers and blogs.
• Define and champion strategic process improvement initiatives.
• Create cross-functional initiatives and solutions for complex technology or business situations.
• Participate actively in the enterprise-wide mobile application governance board.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
• Track record of engaging with and influencing the industry through writing papers, blogs, and participating in forums.
• Demonstrated executive presence with experience presenting to senior leadership.
• Proven record of building and growing technical relationships with senior leaders.
• 10 years as a software engineer, with at least 8 years developing mobile applications specific to Android.
• At least 5+ years in a leadership capacity.

• Master's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Extensive experience supporting a global application with 24/7 operations across millions of users.
• A passion for developing systematic improvements that benefit the end product and customer.
• Extensive experience creating evolutionary architectures with appropriate operational characteristics.
• Demonstrated leadership experience driving cross-functional teams and influencing solutions for a product line.
• Comfort and desire to serve as the strategic subject matter expert for Android Mobile Applications.
