About the position

The Chief Engineer for Android Mobile Applications at Ford Motor Company is a senior leadership role responsible for influencing the development of multiple global mobile applications that cater to both retail and professional consumers. This position involves collaborating with senior leadership to align engineering objectives, leading technical strategies for Android app development, and mentoring software developers. The role requires a strong focus on customer needs and the ability to advocate for innovative technologies that enhance the company's objectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead technical strategies for native Android mobile app development across multiple global customer brands.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop, align, and execute engineering business objectives.
• Support leaders across vertical delivery teams and horizontal foundational teams to ensure consistent enablement of platform and feature development.
• Lead with customer focus alongside senior partners in the software development triad to deliver high-quality features.
• Partner and consult across multiple domains in the broader software organization, including cloud, verification & validation, and DevOps.
• Serve as a mentor and guide to software developers ranging from early career engineers to staff engineers and engineering managers.
• Anticipate and evaluate changes in the industry and incorporate them into strategies and plans.
• Participate in internal and external events and forums to influence industry practices.
• Define and champion strategic process improvement initiatives.
• Create cross-functional initiatives and solutions for complex technology or business situations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
• 10 years as a software engineer, with at least 8 years developing mobile applications specific to Android.
• At least 5+ years being an engineer in a leadership capacity.
• Demonstrated executive presence with examples of presenting to senior leadership.
• Proven record of building and growing technical relationships with senior leaders.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Extensive experience supporting a global application with 24/7 operations across millions of users.
• A passion for developing systematic improvements that benefit the end product and customer.
• Extensive experience creating evolutionary architectures with appropriate operational characteristics: scale, reliability, security, performance.
• Demonstrated leadership experience driving cross-functional teams.
