About the position

As a Chief Engineer at Hilton Grand Vacations, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and operational excellence of our facilities. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks aimed at maintaining the highest standards of service and operational integrity. You will conduct regular walk-throughs to visually assess the physical structures of the building, focusing on the safety and efficient maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and related equipment. This proactive approach will help identify any potential issues before they escalate, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for both guests and staff. In addition to your assessment duties, you will be responsible for assigning and verifying the completion of routine maintenance across various areas, including public spaces, meeting rooms, guest rooms, and back-of-house facilities. You will oversee all repairs, replacements, and renovation projects, ensuring that they are completed to the highest standards. Your leadership will extend to hiring, training, supervising, and disciplining all staff within the Engineering Department, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. You will also be tasked with adhering to corporate purchasing policies, managing budgets, and overseeing contractor bids. Your role will involve maintaining effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs, which will include conducting special training for other departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy. Regular communication with the General Manager and other department managers will be essential, as you will provide updates on the condition of the building and propose cost-effective maintenance solutions. Administrative efficiency will be a key focus, as you will maintain organized systems for handling correspondence, reports, and requisitions. You will ensure that the shop is well-organized for the inventory and maintenance of tools and materials necessary for the department's operations. In emergencies, your expertise will be crucial, as you will be expected to respond promptly to incidents such as fires, equipment failures, or natural disasters. Additionally, you may coordinate special guest requests and employee relations events, showcasing your versatility and commitment to service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular walk-throughs to assess the physical structure(s) of the building for safety and maintenance.
  • Assign and verify completion of routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, guest rooms, and back of house spaces.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and discipline all staff under the Engineering Department.
  • Adhere to corporate purchasing policies and controls, including contractor bids and budgets.
  • Maintain effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs.
  • Inform the General Manager and other department managers about the condition of the building and related systems.
  • Maintain an appropriate supply of materials and equipment for daily operations.
  • Organize and maintain administrative and filing systems within Engineering.
  • Maintain an organized system for inventory, maintenance, and storage of tools and materials.
  • Be available to respond to emergencies requiring the Chief Engineer's expertise.
  • Perform other duties as requested, including coordination of special guest requests.

Requirements

  • Experience as a journey mechanic or engineer with a class A hotel company or related industry.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 5 years of related experience.
  • 2+ years of managerial experience.
