About the position

The Chief Engineer at Cambria Hotel Omaha Downtown is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations of the hotel, ensuring that all systems and equipment are functioning optimally. This role involves managing a team, adhering to safety regulations, and collaborating with various departments to maintain high standards of service and safety. The Chief Engineer will also play a key role in budget management and project completion, contributing to the overall success of the hotel operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and maintains ongoing maintenance operations for the hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, and preventive maintenance.
  • Collaborates on the creation and management of departmental budgets and expense plans.
  • Ensures all projects are completed according to specifications, on time, and within budget.
  • Manages and directs the safety program for the hotel.
  • Works closely with the Executive Housekeeper, Front Office Manager, and Sales team to ensure coordination of activities and AV needs.
  • Assists in the overall security of the hotel, including door locks and asset protection.
  • Instructs vendors and team members in scheduling work and ordering materials.
  • Familiarizes self with blueprints, contracts, and contractors.
  • Interprets specifications and enforces safety regulations.
  • Leads and motivates the team to assist guests and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation of all systems and equipment.
  • May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials.
  • Takes the initiative to greet guests in a friendly manner.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership, management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to motivate team members and ensure service meets brand standards.
  • Experience in coordinating a wide range of activities and recommending solutions to challenges.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certificate from a Vocational Institution and completion of apprenticeship in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical repair preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in the maintenance field.
  • Experience in plumbing, electrical, and painting trades, pools/spas.
