This role is part of Blue Origin's Engineering and Program Management (EPM) Functional Organization, where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and technical authority for product engineering and manufacturing! As the Operations Chief Engineer, you will partner with leadership teams across Manufacturing, Business Units and Engineering to achieve production rates and program cost goals. The position requires extensive manufacturing operations experience and strong collaboration skills that will be applied across all Blue Origin business units, sites, and partners to implement sound solutions that support successful production of various space products. In this fast-paced exciting environment, you will lead to innovative solutions, while demonstrate personal leadership, competence, and a passion for the highest technical standards. The Operations Chief Engineer will functionally report to the Vice President of EPM with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Operations Senior Vice President. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship leading to the optimization of manufacturing operations across all programs and business units.
  • Partner with Manufacturing leadership to identify critical areas of improvements to increase product manufacturability, reduce production cycle time and reduce production and support costs.
  • Coordinate with Program Chief Engineers to guide activities internally and across multi-element and partner teams to resolve complex manufacturing problems.
  • Assess and influence designs during development phases to ensure manufacturability and design to cost factors are included as critical parts of design considerations and is the final technical authority to ensure designs are producible and manufacturable.
  • Serve as a conduit between Manufacturing and Program Engineering and serve as an advocate for Manufacturing to improve test yields, reduce manufacturing cycle time and reduce support costs.
  • Guide and mentor production support engineers to achieve manufacturing goals including, reducing nonconformance's, optimizing test strategies, and eliminating non-value added processes, inspections and tests.
  • Improve supplier delivery by resolving issues, increase test yields, optimize inspections, etc.
  • Champion review of nonconformance's with the goal of identifying trends in order to devise and implement corrective actions. The corrective actions may include product design changes, and/or process changes.
  • Partner with Operations Leadership in defining and implementing Operations strategic roadmap.
  • Chair the Technical Standards Review Board across Blue Origin to ensure best practices by setting and implementing common standards and processes across all business units and programs.

Requirements

  • B.S. in an engineering-related field.
  • A minimum of 20+ validated years of experience in a technical leadership role working in manufacturing environment, complemented by additional design, development or analysis experiences.
  • Extensive experience as a Chief Engineer in the full life cycle development of aerospace operations programs, including human rated systems, with an emphasis on high volume production.
  • Highly organized Leader with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record to operate with cohesive and effective teams and drive rapid decision making within those teams.
  • Experience with development in mission and safety-critical environments.
  • Ability to travel and/or temporary duty in support of growing tempos of production and operations.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
