About the position

The Chief Engineer at Hotel Zamora is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of the hotel facilities, ensuring a high standard of safety and operational efficiency. This role involves hands-on work in various maintenance tasks, leadership of the maintenance staff, and collaboration with external vendors to maintain the hotel's luxurious environment and meet business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, light carpentry, and painting.
  • Respond to open work orders and resolve management requests within 24 hours.
  • Direct maintenance staff on small repairs such as patching drywall and fixing faulty wiring.
  • Assist in scheduling and completing preventive maintenance for the building and equipment.
  • Conduct hands-on work for building repairs and general upkeep of the facility.
  • Walk the property daily to ensure cleanliness and maintenance standards are met.
  • Maintain sufficient maintenance supply stock.
  • Contract outside vendors and obtain bids for special projects or extensive maintenance.
  • Manage budgets and obtain approvals for expenditures.
  • Maintain exterior grounds and interior common areas in a presentable condition.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, and test adjustments as needed.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean work areas.
  • Perform year-round grounds maintenance including snow and ice removal.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in maintenance or related carpentry/construction, ideally in a hotel environment.
  • Special boilers license or willingness to obtain one, if applicable.
  • Current and valid driver's license required, with a safe driving record.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO), if applicable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a multi-lingual environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • A passion for the mission, vision, and values of Sherman Associates.
