About the position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the integrity of all building systems, ensuring efficient operation, and providing various tenant services. This role requires a skilled individual with extensive experience in building systems management, technical problem-solving, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all building systems including HVAC, water treatment, electrical, lighting, plumbing, energy management, fire protection, and structural systems.
  • Installs, fabricates, constructs, troubleshoots, and repairs complex mechanical and electrical equipment with minimal or no support.
  • Coordinates, distributes and tracks work assignments, plans work to be performed, and obtains necessary tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of equipment being serviced and follows inspection and service procedures outlined in preventive maintenance and loss control programs.
  • Responsible for the care of assigned equipment, tools, and uniforms for self and team, ensuring cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Follows operational and safety procedures and implements policies set forth by the company.
  • Assists in the technical training and upgrading of skills of less qualified personnel and measures progress for annual performance evaluations.
  • Inspects all areas of the building(s) and reports deficiencies and suggestions for improvement to the Property Manager or Client.
  • Monitors contractors, inspects work, and generates deficiency lists.
  • Available for various shifts and to occasionally work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure adequate building coverage and perform necessary repairs.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive training and certification in HVAC or Operating Engineering Technologies and/or equivalent job-related training and experience.
  • Universal CFC certification required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of field experience in building systems management.
  • Strong computer skills necessary to operate and diagnose problems associated with Building Automation Systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA, NEC, and NFC codes and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • SMT/SMA certification or enrollment in program.
  • Continuing education in the field.
  • Comprehensive skills for solving technical problems.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
