About the position

The Chief Engineer will operate Navy vessels out of San Diego, CA, supporting the Range Support Craft Services (RSCS). This role involves working both independently and as part of a close-knit team to accomplish various maritime functions, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of engineering systems on board.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor all machinery and engineering equipment on Navy vessels.
• Oversee the upkeep and cleanliness of all engineering spaces.
• Maintain an engine room watch at all times when the vessel is underway.
• Log fuel consumption and fuel requirements, as well as vessel maintenance actions.
• Maintain a daily engineering log and inventory of government-furnished parts and equipment.
• Log all maintenance tasks into a ship management software application.

Requirements

• Valid USCG license of Chief Engineer with appropriate endorsements for steam, motor, and/or gas turbine-propelled vessels.
• At least five years of experience with routine operation, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repairs of shipboard systems.
• Understanding of electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment on board.
• Experience in maintaining routine and preventive maintenance system documentation.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment.
