About the position

The Chief Engineer at Kennedy Jenks is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing and developing technical standards and approaches for engineering service delivery. This role focuses on continuous improvement, risk management, and the implementation of innovative engineering practices to enhance project delivery and client satisfaction. The Chief Engineer will lead a Standards Committee, manage QA/QC processes, and collaborate with various teams to ensure adherence to company standards and effective project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, develop, and implement changes to company technical practices and processes to enhance project delivery.
  • Minimize organizational risk through the development and improvement of design processes, templates, and standards.
  • Oversee the development of systems, tools, processes, and policies that enforce adherence to company standards.
  • Continuously assess and update the firm's technical standards and approaches as necessary.
  • Develop and lead a Standards Committee to review and recommend changes to design standards for risk mitigation and efficiency.
  • Set standard evaluation processes for new technologies and provide guidance on their application in projects.
  • Partner with Construction Management Leads to maintain processes for construction phase management and issue resolution.
  • Develop and manage a monthly Technical Learning Program to share advancements in technical practices and project delivery approaches.
  • Provide strategic direction on technical aspects of projects during pursuit and delivery stages.
  • Review scope, schedule, budget, and staffing for large and complex proposals, especially those for Risk Committee review.
  • Develop and maintain QA/QC processes for all projects, ensuring compliance with approved procedures.
  • Collaborate with the PMO to verify QA/QC processes are applied to each project.
  • Chair the Risk Committee and manage risk assessment discussions and assignments.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel to manage strategic defenses against claims and client satisfaction challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a similar engineering field required.
  • Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Practical PM and PE required.
  • 20+ years of experience in water/wastewater design through construction and project delivery.
  • Deep understanding of the design process and engineering-related software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, Revit, and Microsoft Products.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, government regulations, and technical standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member, exchanging ideas and following through on assignments.
  • Strong communication skills to influence decisions at all organizational levels.
