About the position

Kennedy Jenks is seeking a collaborative and influential Chief Engineer to lead and develop technical standards and approaches for the delivery of engineering services. This role focuses on continuous improvement in project delivery, risk management, and the development of innovative solutions in engineering and environmental consulting. The Chief Engineer will oversee the implementation of technical practices, manage a Standards Committee, and provide strategic direction on complex projects, ensuring adherence to company standards and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, develop, and implement changes to company technical practices and processes for project delivery.
  • Develop and lead a Standards Committee to review and update design standards and approaches.
  • Set standard evaluation processes for new technologies and provide guidance documentation.
  • Partner with Construction Management Leads to maintain processes for construction phase management and issue resolution.
  • Develop and manage a monthly Technical Learning Program to share advancements in project delivery and design processes.
  • Provide strategic direction on technical aspects of projects, managing risk and applying approved processes.
  • Review scope, schedule, budget, and staffing for large and complex proposals, especially those for Risk Committee review.
  • Develop and maintain QA/QC processes for all projects, ensuring compliance with approved standards.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Office to verify QA/QC processes are applied to each project.
  • Chair the Risk Committee, managing risk assessment forms and discussions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or similar engineering field required.
  • Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Practical PM and PE required.
  • 20+ years of experience in water/wastewater design through construction and project delivery.
  • Deep understanding of the design process and engineering software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, Revit, and Microsoft Products.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate and influence decisions at all organizational levels.
